Lawrence Leonard was Assistant Conductor of the BBC Northern Orchestra and the Hallé, then Music Director of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in Canada. He made guest appearances with every major orchestra in Britain and conducted opera and ballet as well. He was a popular and charismatic Professor of Conducting at the Guildhall School of Music.

Lawrence Leonard was musical director and conductor at the Hoffnung Music Festivals in 1956 and 1958, as well as for the 1961 Mobile for Seven Orchestras

Guest conductor

Lawrence Leonard was a guest conductor at all major orchestras in the UK, and most of those in Canada. He also conducted for: Berliner Symphonie, Brabant Philharmonie, Dresden Philharmonie, Leipzig Rundfunk, Nord Deutsche Rundfunk, Rheinische Philharmonie, RTE Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonie, Ulster Orchestra.
